Traveling between Jackson, Mississippi and Nashville, TN along the 444 mile Natchez Trace Parkway and using words like 'serene' and 'lovely' Historical markers along the way, but not too much to see (one good cyprus swamp!).
When we got tired of driving we followed some signs for a forest Service Campground and found Davis Lake. A calm, quiet, and lovely lake. We've done the nature thing here -- watcher the fish, the turtles, the ducks and geese, sunset and sunrise. A place for reflection and mindfulness! And seemingly a well-kept secret!
This is what we saw upon wakening -- taken though BB's back window....
Chick Fight: As I write this I am watching a stand-off between a heron who seems to want to fish from a small point of land, and about five noisy geese who seemingly don't want that to happen. The geese are winning at this point. The heron has retreated just to the right of center in this picture. Making himself small.
Full on Sunrise: (For my fisherman friend,Charlie -- Bass, catfish, crappie, and others. If you ever hand an occasion to come to Houlka, Mississippi, this is your spot! )
Retirement Lesson: Getting smacked in the face with the history of US mistreatment of our indigenous folks..... These Mississipian lands were the lands of the Chippewa, the Choctaw and others... Just a note: In Idaho we lived on the lands of the Bannock and the Shoshone, in Durango, the Southern Utes, the Dine (Navajo), Pueblo tribes and others).
Woyaya!
